CENTRAL ECONOMIC LIBRARY (CEK) is a scientific and university library within the Faculty of Economics (FELU), University of Ljubljana, Kardeljeva ploscad 17, Slovenia. As to the library stock (243.256 books and 414 titles of periodicals), it is the biggest library in the field of economics and business sciences in Slovenia.


HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT


1946 Foundation of the Faculty of Economics and its library
1947 Official foundation of the library
1955 First issue of the Bulletin of New Arrivals
1964 Foundation of the Information-Documentation Center
1975 Central Economic Library becomes the official co-ordinator of the Specialized Information-Documentation Center in Economics
1976 Library is moved to a new building (1840 m2)
1979 Creation of the first computer catalog and its own database EKOSIC
1990 Status of European Documentation Center (EDC) granted from the part of the European Communities
1992 Membership of the European Business Schools Librarians' Group (EBSLG)
1998 Active co-operation in the COBISS - shared cataloguing system of the Slovenian libraries

Reference staff can provide our library users general information about the Central Economic Library (further CEK), and basic information on strategies for research in selected catalogues at free access , such as:

  • on-line catalogues of the CEK information sources (books, articles, diplomas, periodicals, serials, etc.)
  • n-line access to databases
  • on-line access to the shared cataloguing system of the Slovenian libraries
  • classical catalogue of books before 1980, and author catalogue, and
  • Monthly exhibition of new books and periodicals, and
  • Art exhibition (paintings, graphic arts, sculpture, ceramics).

Library users can request books and copies of periodical articles not available in the Central Economic Library from other Slovenian or foreign libraries through Inter-library Loan .

SPECIALISED INFORMATION-DOCUMENTATION CENTRE FOR ECONOMICS

providing an information retrieval on specified topics from all the available databases (retrospective searches) on economics and the related sciences from the EKOSIC database created from the library stock, as well as from CD-ROM, and on-line databases.

Information sources cover the following fields:

accounting, banking, business and public finance, business English, German, French, Italian, and Spanish languages, business information, business law, commerce, demography, domestic trade, econometrics, economic policy, economic theory, entrepreneurship, financial markets, foreign trade, international economic integrations (EU, EFTA, ...), mathematics, marketing, monetary economics, national economy, operations research, organization and management, social and economic systems, statistics, tourism, transport, ...

INDOK has been creating its own bibliographic database EKOSIC from its own library stock since 1979. It has more than 40,000 bibliographic records of books and over 46,000 articles from selected domestic economic reviews, to a lesser degree from foreign economic reviews (special issues), with keywords and abstracts. EKOSIC is incorporated in the shared cataloguing system of Slovenian libraries COBISS. It is also available as a local database.

DESCRIPTION OF DATABASES

PROQUEST DIRECT is an on-line information service which incorporates multi-databases and enables simultaneous or separate information retrieval of databases ABI/INFORM Global, Social Sciences Plus, Digital Dissertation, and others. Full-text articles can be viewed on-line, printed or sent by e-mail.
ABI/INFORM Global, and Social Sciences Plus are bibliographic databases covering business and management (partly with abstracts, partly full-text).

ISI Web of Science is a bibliographic database of social sciences (partly with abstracts).

JOURNAL CITATION REPORTS It is a bibliometric analysis of social science journals, being the only source of citation data on journals. This provides a new set of quantitative tools for ranking, evaluating, categorizing, and comparing journals (impact factor).

GV IN It is a business information system of the Slovenian economy incorporating also on-line bibliographic databases of full-text articles of the Slovenian professional journals.
The information system covers business performance of the Slovenian enterprises - FIPO, business information - STA, business directory - KOMPASS, scale of the Slovenian enterprises, information on fairs, etc. …

iBON It is the leading database of the company performance of the Slovenian enterprises and their status enquiry.

IUS-INFO On-line legal and business information system which incorporates the full-text documents of the Slovenian legislation.
